- Description
Our client is seeking a commercially astute estimator to take on a leadership role with a small team in their Toronto office. Projects are distributed across North America and involve the design, engineering, and manufacturing of both standardized and customized commercial window washing systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of estimators and sales coordinator(s)
- Oversee the estimating process for all projects bid and awarded, directing resources for all estimations and tenders for projects across North America
- Hands-on involvement in estimates for large and/or complex projects when needed
- Mentoring and training of staff within the estimating team
- Liaise with the commercial, engineering, and project management teams to ensure adherence to project scope and delivery timelines
- Work closely with senior company leadership to prioritise pursuits/tenders and make Go-No Go decisions
- Develop annual budgets and contribute to strategies for company/revenue growth
- Oversee analysis of past performance on projects and establish estimating standards for all future estimates based on such analysis
- Assist in oversight of the historical cost database and bid management and estimating software
- Review project plans and specifications and coordinate with the team to confirm complete scope
- Identify and mitigate risk issues
- Coordinate insurance requirements with Risk Manager (and/or senior leadership)
- Maintain and communicate data on construction and material cost trends affecting project costs
- Build effective relationships with the commercial team, design team, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer's expectations
- Actively participate in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image
Desired Skills, Experience, and Education
- Educational background in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Cost Consulting, or equivalent related work experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a construction or manufacturing environment
- Minimum of 8 years of estimating experience
- Previous team leadership/management experience highly valued
- Proven ability to analyse estimating processes and make improvements
- Exceptional relationship building skills
- Highly effective written and oral communication skills
