The Senior Healthcare Architect is an experienced architectural expert ready to tackle intricate design challenges, guide project teams, and drive the firm’s expansion. This role is perfect for a leader in architecture who excels in applying advanced design principles, managing complex projects, and mentoring junior staff, all while maintaining high standards of design quality and client satisfaction.
Focused on healthcare facility planning, the Senior Healthcare Architect will work closely with medical professionals, administrators, and other stakeholders to create facilities that optimize healthcare delivery, ensure safety, and promote a healing environment. This role demands a thorough understanding of patient flow, staff workflow, infection control, accessibility, and the integration of cutting-edge medical technologies.
Responsibilities and Duties- Architectural Design and Planning:
- Lead the development of architectural designs for healthcare projects, utilizing a combination of standard procedures and innovative approaches. Ensure designs meet client requirements and adhere to industry standards.
- Optimize patient flow, staff workflow, infection control, and accessibility in the design of healthcare spaces.
- Integrate advanced medical technologies into facility designs to ensure adaptability and future-readiness.
- Oversee multiple projects, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, andmeet prescribed performance objectives.
- Drive design excellence by modifying established guidelines, devising new approaches,and applying existing criteria in innovative ways. Recommend improvements in design standards to enhance project outcomes.
- Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, interpreting their requirements,presenting design concepts, and providing updates on project progress. Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
- Collaborate with medical professionals, administrators, and stakeholders to design healthcare facilities that meet functional, safety, and healing requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including engineers, consultants,and contractors, to integrate architectural and engineering systems and ensure project success.
- Investigate and resolve design and field difficulties, coordinating with contractors, suppliers, and consultants to ensure project specifications are met.
- Work closely with professionals from related architectural and engineering disciplines to integrate diverse project elements into a cohesive design solution. Lead interdisciplinary project meetings and workshops.
- Project Management:
- Perform and oversee technical analyses and calculations to support design decisions. Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, regulations, and best practices.
- Participate in project planning to achieve budget, schedule, and performance goals. Monitor project expenses and timelines to ensure alignment with project objectives.
- Independently write, negotiate, and administer contracts with clients and contractors. Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
- Prepare and present detailed progress reports to senior management and clients. Recommend changes in designs, estimate costs, and approve payments for completed work.
- Adhere to and uphold the organization’s quality control processes, ensuring all work meets established standards and project specifications. Conduct quality reviews of designs and documentation.
- Problem Solving and Innovation:
- Address and resolve complex design challenges using initiative and judgment. Refer particularly unusual problems to senior architects or specialists as needed.
- Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices. Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and standards within the firm.
- Advocate for innovative and sustainable opportunities on projects, taking the lead for innovative design and follow-through.
- Leadership and Guidance:
- Mentor and support junior team members, fostering their professional development and growth. Lead project teams, assigning tasks, and ensuring team members understand project objectives and deadlines.
- Assist with various tasks and projects as assigned by supervisors or senior team members to support the overall success of the team and company objectives.

- Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture from an accredited institution.
- Registered Architect with OAA, AAA, or similar, depending on office location.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in architectural design and project leadership, with a proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects and at least 5 years of experience in healthcare architecture.
- Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Proficiency in architectural software such as Revit, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite. Advanced skills in 3D modeling and rendering software preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to apply advanced architectural knowledge to develop innovative design solutions and resolve complex design challenges.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present ideas, negotiate contracts, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource management. Experience in contract negotiation and administration.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to lead project teams, mentor junior staff, and inspire collaboration across disciplines.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of sustainable design principles and LEED certification processes.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated design solutions.
