About the Role
We are hiring an Accounting Manager to oversee the full accounting cycle and lead the financial operations of a professional services firm. This is a full-time, onsite position where you will work closely with a collaborative leadership team while owning all core accounting, payroll, and trust-related processes.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience within a law firm, strong understanding of legal accounting rules, and the confidence to run an accounting function with independence and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations
• Oversee day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping activities
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes with accuracy and timeliness
• Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and adjustments
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements and management reporting
Payroll & Compliance
• Manage payroll processing, remittances, and compliance requirements
• Ensure adherence to payroll legislation and internal policies
Trust & Legal Accounting
• Maintain and reconcile trust and general accounts in accordance with Law Society of Ontario requirements
• Monitor client ledgers, retainers, disbursements, and trust transactions
• Prepare trust audit materials and coordinate with external auditors
Budgeting & Planning
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and ongoing financial planning
• Provide financial analysis to support operational decision-making
Process & Systems Management
• Maintain accurate financial records and documentation
• Oversee accounting system workflows, reporting, and updates
• Identify opportunities to streamline processes and strengthen internal controls
Qualifications
• At least 2 years in an accounting leadership role within a law firm (e.g., Accounting Manager, Assistant Manager, Senior Bookkeeper leading a team or function)
• Strong understanding of legal accounting practices including trust accounting and client ledger management
• Hands-on experience with Soluno (required)
• Strong proficiency in bookkeeping, payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting
• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• High attention to detail, strong organization, and ability to work independently
• Comfortable working onsite and partnering closely with lawyers and staff
