Reporting to the electrical discipline lead, this role takes technical ownership of building electrical design and construction-phase support across a varied project portfolio in the institutional, commercial, and industrial markets. Involvement spans the full project lifecycle, from proposal through closeout. The position is client-facing and includes mentoring design staff and coordinating across engineering disciplines.
What You'll Own
- Delivery of projects across a range of size and complexity, several running concurrently
- Scoping, fee proposals, team selection, and assignment briefing
- Technical leadership on all building electrical systems, from concept through construction administration
- Design presentations to clients and securing approval
- Direction of model and drawing production in a BIM-based workflow
- Calculations and equipment sizing — performed directly and reviewed when produced by others
- Specification development, including commercial terms where applicable
- Chairing coordination meetings with internal teams, consultants, owners, contractors, sub-trades, and vendors
- Input to value analysis and preliminary cost estimating
- Management of scope, budget, resourcing, and schedule
- QA/QC on assigned work and peer review of colleagues' deliverables
- Contribution to the discipline's standards and specification library
What You Bring
- Working command of the national and Ontario building and electrical safety codes governing this work
- Full-cycle familiarity with document production and how drawings and specifications interrelate
- Depth across medium- and low-voltage distribution, standby generation, UPS, lighting and lighting controls, and fire detection and alarm — including means, methods, materials, and current practice
- A reviewer's eye for accuracy and completeness, with the time management to hold budget and schedule
- Collaborative instincts and capacity for both creative and critical thinking
- Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to convey technical ideas clearly, in writing and in person
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and standard document markup and office software
- Asset: experience with specialty lighting and power-systems modelling software
Credentials
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent, with P.Eng. licensure in Ontario — required
- Ten or more years of relevant experience preferred
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to sites
- Assets: professional certification in a specialized electrical discipline; experience with technology-driven or high-availability facility design
