The Role:
Our client is looking to add a Senior Underwriter to their growing team. This person will be responsible for profitably managing and expanding a portfolio of commercial property & casualty business across the Prairie Region. The role will focus on Casualty, P&C Package, Umbrella, and Excess Liability lines. In addition to underwriting responsibilities, this individual will provide mentorship to junior team members and help drive broker engagement and regional strategy.Key Responsibilities:
Underwrite new and renewal commercial P&C business in line with profitability and risk standards
Collaborate with risk services, actuarial, and claims teams to ensure sound underwriting decisions
Support growth by maintaining a strong broker pipeline and identifying cross-sell opportunities
Ensure proper exposure analysis, documentation, and adherence to underwriting guidelines
Mentor and coach team members to support technical and professional development
Develop and maintain strong broker and client relationships
Collaborate on complex multi-line accounts and support differentiated go-to-market strategies
Contribute to the evolution of underwriting processes and adoption of new systems and tools
Stay active in industry learning, professional development, and DE&I initiatives
What They're Looking For:
5+ years of experience underwriting commercial P&C (with a strong emphasis on casualty)
Post-secondary education; insurance designations such as CIP or FCIP are an asset
Strong understanding of policy wordings and how they impact claims
Analytical mindset with a proven record of profitable underwriting
Comfortable mentoring others and supporting a collaborative team culture
Strong communication, organization, and broker relationship management skills
Adaptable and open to innovation and change
