The Role
As a Senior Construction Contract Administrator, you will play a leadership role in overseeing construction delivery, ensuring quality, managing contractor relationships, and serving as a key point of contact throughout the construction phase of major infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Provide general contract administration during construction, including approval of material and procedural alternatives and review/approval of shop drawings
- Maintain and update tracking tools for change directives, change orders, payment certificates, and overall construction cost and progress
- Review and comment on contractor-submitted schedules
- Conduct random field checks of major contract items to verify quantities on payment certificates and resolve discrepancies through monthly audits
- Review, negotiate, and provide recommendations on contractor claims for extra work
- Prepare and process monthly progress estimates
- Oversee construction activities to confirm quality standards are being met
- Review and comment on contractor traffic control plans in accordance with applicable standards
- Chair and minute regular construction progress meetings
- Respond to contractor information requests in a timely manner
- Administer quality assurance protocols, including coordination with sub-consultants for materials testing
- Maintain regular client communication regarding project status and construction issues
- Coordinate and provide direction to on-site representatives
Qualifications
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in construction and contract administration for large-scale transportation, transit, commercial, and/or municipal infrastructure projects
- University degree in Civil Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing — Ontario licensure required
- Demonstrated on-site construction administration experience across project types such as transit facilities, parking structures, track and signal systems, and building rehabilitation
- Proven experience supervising Site Representatives and coordinating field activities
- Strong background in schedule analysis, progress measurement, critical path monitoring, and change impact assessment
- Experience within a rail right-of-way or with Class 1 railways considered an asset
- Certification as a Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA) through Construction Specifications Canada (CSC) is an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Valid Class G driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
