We are partnering with a leading Canadian insurance organization to find an exceptional Senior Director of Financial Reporting to join their finance leadership team. This is a high-impact role sitting at the intersection of technical accounting excellence and strategic financial leadership.
The Opportunity
As Senior Director, Financial Reporting, you will own the end-to-end financial reporting process, lead a high-performing team, and serve as the organization's subject matter expert on IFRS 17. You will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of consolidated financial statements while driving continuous improvement across the reporting function.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and review of consolidated financial statements in accordance with IFRS, with deep accountability for IFRS 17 compliance and technical interpretation
- Serve as the internal authority on IFRS 17 — translating complex technical guidance into practical application across the business
- Oversee the financial consolidation process across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Partner with actuarial, FP&A, and external auditors on IFRS 17 measurement models, disclosures, and reporting outputs
- Monitor evolving IFRS standards and assess the impact on the organization's financial reporting framework
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of financial reporting professionals
- Present financial results and technical accounting positions to senior leadership and the audit committee
What You Bring
- CPA designation (CA preferred) with 10+ years of progressive experience in financial reporting
- Deep, hands-on technical knowledge of IFRS 17 — implementation and/or ongoing application experience is essential
- Strong background in financial consolidations within a complex, multi-entity environment
- Prior experience in the insurance or financial services sector strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage cross-functional stakeholder relationships
- Excellent communication skills — able to translate technical accounting into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership
