- Description
You'll work with general direction on individual tasks and small projects, and as part of a project team on larger assignments led by a senior engineer or designer. The role covers evaluating, recommending, and specifying engineered electrical systems, and confirming those designs meet applicable codes and engineering standards. Day to day, expect a mix of Revit modelling, calculations, and site work.
What you'll be doing
- Take the lead on small- to mid-sized projects, and contribute as a core team member on large ones
- Select, specify, and engineer building electrical systems and equipment, including generators and UPS; familiarity with solar PV and battery storage is a plus
- Develop designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual media
- Build three-dimensional models of building electrical systems using BIM tools, and provide markups to junior staff
- Produce and revise drawings across all electrical phases — site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details
- Run coordination meetings with internal staff, outside consultants, owners, contractors, subtrades, and suppliers
- Sit in on client requirement sessions, value analysis, and preliminary cost estimating
- Support senior staff in setting and managing project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule
- Lead preparation of project specifications and keep them aligned with the construction documents
- Perform and review calculations using both standard in-house software and manufacturer tools
- Apply advanced analysis techniques to specialized building electrical elements
- Take part in constructability reviews
- Carry out QA/QC on your own projects
- Contribute to new standards and specifications for the electrical team
- Balance several projects at once
What you bring
- Demonstrated experience producing electrical contract documents
- A track record in buildings work — commercial, light industrial, industrial, institutional, or government; aviation and transportation experience is a welcome addition
- Working command of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, the Canadian Electrical Code, and relevant building and energy codes
- Familiarity with every phase of document production and how drawings and specifications relate to one another
- Practical knowledge of electrical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards
- The ability to review others' work for accuracy and completeness, and to manage your time against project budgets and schedules
- Comfort collaborating in a team setting, with a willingness to think both creatively and critically
- Strong grasp of electrical engineering fundamentals and the ability to explain your thinking clearly
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills; presentation and interview experience is preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Revit, and AutoCAD; experience with AGI32, ETAP, or power system studies is an advantage
- An interest in business development and proposal work
Education and experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or the equivalent, plus a P.Eng. licence (or in the final stages of obtaining one)
- At least six years of Canadian experience
- LEED Green Associate or LEED AP is an asset
- PMP, LC, or RCDD certification is an asset
